Plan Introduction

「Strange Creature Observation」 Ecological Education Program

The vast natural ecosystem always triggers humanity's wild fantasies about the unknown. Creatures such as the mythical beasts in "Shan Hai Jing" and the magical species in "Harry Potter" are all strange species imagined by humans. Have you ever wondered if you can also find strange creatures with both exotic beauty and ecological value in Hong Kong?

Although Hong Kong is not large in area, it has also nurtured countless species of nature. Among them, some species, due to their peculiar appearance or behavior, give us the impression of resistance, misunderstanding, or fear. This project takes the concept of "strangeness" as its starting point, encouraging participants to actively understand the reasons for their strangeness, and using creative methods to discover and appreciate the unique beauty of these characteristic animals, plants, and insects in Hong Kong. It provides us with a way to appreciate every living organism on Earth, understand their unique ecological characteristics, and thus gain a more comprehensive understanding of biodiversity, so as to get to know well the "neighbors" that coexist with us.

Through forms such as college student training courses, in-school teaching activities, sticker creation competitions, etc., we encourage participants to explore the "weird" side of biology from a creative perspective, and present alternative creative aesthetics and unique ecological values to the public.

Project Objectives

Integrate biodiversity promotion through creative means to attract more public attention

Demonstrating and promoting diverse approaches to biodiversity inspires different ecological teaching and promotion methods

Promote and train youth to popularize ecological and creative education

Regarding「Strange」……

Creatures do not act "weird" for the sake of being "weird"; every strange trait has its reason for existence. Some species have uncoordinated color combinations to scare off predators; some have body structures different from common organisms because they need to adapt to their living environments; some exhibit unexpected behaviors to survive in their habitats. These strange traits have evolved through the process of survival, but from the mainstream aesthetic perspective, they are not appealing, thus causing people to feel resistance, misunderstanding, or fear towards them.
